A gas pipeline connecting Lithuania and Latvia exploded and caught fire on the night of January 13, Lithuanian authorities said.
The explosion damaged one of the two gas pipelines from Lithuania to Latvia. Lithuanian authorities also said they were planning to restore gas supplies from an undamaged pipeline.

The exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation, Lithuanian energy officials said. When reporters asked if it was a terrorist attack, Lithuanian officials replied that they are investigating all possible reasons and will make an announcement in a few days. The Russian government has yet to say anything about the Lithuanian gas pipeline explosion.
