The provincial governor’s office reported that Ukraine attacked the airstrip in the capital of Russia’s Kas province with a drone. As a result of the attack, an oil storage tank near the airport hit and exploded and caught fire, according to the press release.
Although there were no casualties, state officials said the airport was closed indefinitely.
The airfield in Kas is almost 60 miles from the border with Ukraine, and this is the third time Russian airports have been attacked in one day, according to Russian government news. On December 5th, the Russian government reported that Ukraine attacked the Degilevo military airfield in the Ryzen region and the “Engels” air base in the Saratov region with drones.
The Ukrainian government is believed to be using advanced Soviet-era Tu-141s drones with a range of more than 400 miles, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
